This week we want to introduce you to one of our favorite girl crushes, Kate Alvarado. Kate is an actress, yoga instructor, swimsuit connoisseur and an amazing human being. Kate is inspiring in so many ways, but her greatest quality is always wanting to do better. Whether it is in acting class, at an audition or just in life; she strives for perfection. She uses yoga as a balance to relieve stress and keep her in a positive mental space.
Hear what Kate has to say about her lifestyle:
What type of activities do you do to stay fit?
I teach yoga so I am constantly in the studio taking all types of different classes. I feel the most when I’m taking 3 to 4 sculpt classes, a hot yoga class that implements weight training and cardio, a week. I also try my best to run at least once a week, because I primarily get most of my cardio while just running around teaching my classes.
What do you think is the key to a healthy lifestyle?
Most people say a healthy lifestyle starts with clean eating, but for me it starts with exercise. When I feel physically strong I am much more motivated to eat healthy and get the right amount of sleep. I use the mindset train hard 4 times a week, and be active the other 3 days.
What’s your favorite asset?
My favorite asset is my stomach. Because I was a dancer my whole life I’ve always had a really strong core. It is also the first place I gain weight so it’s a good indicator for me if I’ve been indulging in a little too much night time froyo. 😊
What is your LEAST favorite workout? But why do you still do it?
I wouldn’t say I have a least favorite workout but it’s definitely the hardest to get myself motivated enough to go on a run. Once I’m on it I cruise and I love it, but I’m so much more likely to go to a class where I can listen to a teacher tell me what to do.
If you had to choose any healthy meal or snack what would it be?
favorite meal of the day is my oatmeal in the morning. I buy gluten free rolled oats from trader joes and going to bed at night I honestly look forward to waking up, eating my oatmeal, and having a cup of coffee. My roommates make fun of me because it’s so boring but I love it.
We all have cheat days, what’s your poison?
I have SUCH a sweet tooth. Come 8pm all my mind is thinking about is chocolate. I’ve gotten better by just having a square of dark chocolate on the week nights but I will let myself go to frozen yogurt once a weekend.
What inspires you to be healthy and active?
I’m on set a lot in minimal clothing whether it’s bathing suits and active wear and there is nothing worse than not feeling my best on set. Mind you I do not let shoots run my life because you can’t control when they come, but I like to maintain my body as well as health so that way when I’m on set I feel confident and not self conscious. When I feel good my energy is more positive and I produce better work. That being said I’ve found working to maintain balance has helped me a lot so when last minute shoots come in I don’t panic.
If you could give girls any advice about loving their bodies what would you say?
Yoga has changed my perspective of my body completely. I don’t look at tiny parts that I want to fix but look at how my body is functioning as a whole. If I’ve been eating unhealthy instead of saying having the ‘old Kate’ thoughts of negativity about my body, I instead say ‘okay I’m not as strong today but I can build strength again’. So instead on focusing on areas of your body you want to change think about the overall function of your body and what it’s trying to tell you. And at the end of the day be light with yourself, if you take it too seriously you will never see changes, find a sense of fun with your workouts and they won’t seem like a chore.
Wishing you Health, Wealth & Happiness,
