From Blonde to Brunette

This year I was ready for a change. I wanted to do something different with my look. I had already done the “chopping all of my hair off” thing. I loved it for a while, but then you go through that terrible awkward phase before you get your long beautiful locks back. So, I decided I wanted to change my hair color and go back to my natural tone: brunette (with some red hues). It wasn’t just the fact that I changed my outward appearance that made me want to write this article.  I actually have started to notice some other differences.

PEOPLE STARTED TREATING ME DIFFERENTLY

This is something I noticed right away. I don’t think this is an intentional thing, but I started to realize that men in particular were more interested in what I had to say. Previously, I would bring up an intelligent point in conversation and men would almost always brush it off. I kind of got used to it. I would rush my thoughts out as fast as possible so that I could get everything out. But, I noticed as soon as I went back brunette, I would start to speak and all eyes were on me. People started to listen to what I had to say and I started to feel more respected in conversation.

I STARTED TREATING ME DIFFERENTLY

I am naturally brunette.  Here is a fun picture of me at 14 when I was modeling and rocking my beautiful brown locks. (Gosh, I also miss those brows!)

For years, I tried to convince my mom to let me go blonde. I believed the saying and thought that blondes had more fun. I wanted to see what it was like to be on the other side. When I moved to Los Angeles, the chance came for me to get rid of my brown locks for a lighter hue. I’ve been blonde for almost 6 years now; but going back to my natural color has made me feel a little more at home. I feel more like myself. I’m honestly more comfortable in my body than I have ever been before. It just all feels so right!

I’M HAPPIER

I have noticed that I am just happier. It doesn’t have anything to do with being blonde vs. brunette. It has more to do with the fact that I feel more like me. That’s what makes me happy.

Thanks for reading along.  If you have any interesting experiences that came from changing the way you look we would love to hear it.

Wishing you Health, Wealth & Happiness,

Ashley Sutton
