Recipe: Harvey’s Ginger Snaps

I have lived far away from my family for the last several years. Around the holidays I get especially nostalgic for the traditions I grew up with. Luckily in 2 weeks I will be at home with my family, but until then, It helps to make my dad’s famous ginger snaps. They truly are famous among friends I grew up with, and people we have shared them with along the way. My dad has been making them for as long as I can remember. There were a few years when all my cousin wanted for christmas was a batch of the amazing cookies.

Last christmas, my best friend Julia made me this amazing dish towel with the recipe on it so I will never lose it! (This homemade towel is also a great gift idea!)


They are very easy and quick to make. You won’t believe how delicious these little cookies are!

Ingredients you’ll need:


  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tbsp ginger
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt

How to make them:

  1. Combine softened butter and sugar until smooth
  2. Add molasses and egg
  3. Combine dry ingredients in separate bowl


4. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients slowly

5. Roll into 3/4 inch balls

6. Roll in sugar and place on baking sheet


7. Bake for 10-15 min at 350 degrees F
