WCW: Tig Notaro

Why we are crushing on Tig…

Okay I’m going to start off by saying if you don’t know who Tig is you need watch her HBO special “Boyish Girl Interrupted” right now.   She is the funniest and incredibly inspiring. I promise, she will make you laugh so hard you pee your pants just a little bit.  (SPOILER ALERTS)

Tig is amazing!

In 2012 she found out she had breast cancer in both of her breasts.  She was set to do a show at the Largo in Los Angeles, CA where she delivered the most beautiful set.  It is considered legendary by both audiences and comedians alike.  She openly discusses her cancer: how she found it & how she dealt with it.

In her most recent HBO special she does something that honestly made me (and my husband!) cry when it happened (DONT READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN HER SPECIAL).  She starts to discuss her breast cancer in a very humorous light.  She then goes to take off her shirt to reveal the double mastectomy she had without an reconstructive story.  This is the moment I fell in love with Tig.  She is able to show you her battle wounds and almost make you forget whats even happening.  She performs the rest of her set topless and leaves you feeling more inspired then ever.

Thank you Tig for sharing your story.  The openness and honesty you have shared about your cancer is truly inspiring.  If you want to see more of Tig you can also watch her documentary “Tig” (which I just started crying watching the trailer).  It shows an even more personal side to her fight with Cancer and how she leaned even more into laughter to make it all better.

As we come to an end of Breast Cancer Awareness Month we at Three Pretty Beans want you to know that if you have recently been diagnosed, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. There are so many inspiring women out there that have gone through the same thing that you are going through.  Take the time to read their stories.  Sometimes the hardest thing is feeling that you are alone.  You are not alone.  We are all right there beside you.

Wishing you Health, Wealth & Happiness,

Ashley Sutton
