Why we’re crushing on Olivia Newton John:
First of all I was born in 1990 have watched Grease more times than I could ever count, I’ve been in Grease the musical and I’ve been Sandy for halloween TWICE! She was pretty influential in my childhood and beyond….
Secondly she is SUPER influential in the world of health. She is a huge healthy living advocate and even has her own book of healthy recipes.
Lastly, Olivia Newton John is a breast cancer survivor and continues to fight breast cancer in any way she can by helping with countless charities, creating awareness and encouraging self examinations, and even creating her own cancer treatment center. She is truly a hero. I included what she says on her cancer treatment center website because her message is so positive and beautiful:
“I guess this journey, towards providing better cancer care and treatment, started for me in 1992, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The diagnosis came the same weekend my father died of cancer, so you can imagine what a shock it was.
I learned very quickly how important it was to think positively. When the second friend I called with the news burst into tears, I thought ‘I don’t need this’. I had a sister and friends make the calls. That way I could focus on positive thoughts.
I underwent a partial mastectomy and breast reconstruction. It’s been a long journey, but now I am cancer-free. The whole experience has given me so much understanding and compassion. I now want to help others going through the same journey.
More and more people are affected by cancer. I believe we are a world in desperate need of healing. I’m committed to doing whatever I can.
I’ve always believed that if you go through anything, even something as difficult as cancer, then something good can come out of it. And that’s exactly what the Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Centre will be.
This Appeal for a dedicated Cancer & Wellness Centre that will provide top medical research and treatment, combined with the best in wellness care, is an important step in the journey to bring us closer to reaching the best treatment outcomes for people with cancer – and ultimately finding a cure for all types of cancer.
My ultimate dream is that one day we will no longer need cancer centres.”
