It may be a southern thing, but I think everyone should try a boiled peanut once in their lifetime. It’s a deliciously softened peanut soaked in your favorite marinade to add a juicy flavoring. I decided to put a spicy twist on these peanuts and they were delicious! My husband has never had a boiled peanut before (He is from New Jersey) and I have definitely made him a fan.
1 lb of RAW peanuts
1/4 cup of sea salt
1 TBS of hot sauce
1/4 cup of cayenne pepper
10 cups of water
Time: 4-6 hours
Place all the ingredients into a big pot and bring the 10 cups of water to a boil.
Once you are boiling cover the pot with a lid. You can lower the temperature to medium on the stovetop. Keep there for an hour and a half. After you have reached that time limit check them. Then continue to boil peanuts until they are soft and cooked all the way through. The timing of this depends on the peanuts that you are cooking with. It took me 4 hours to get the peanuts to the place of my liking.
The best part about this recipe is that once you know how to do it you can vary the ingredients of your “broth”. Instead of spicy, try a thai basil or cajun version of boiled peanuts. Once you make yours, comment with your favorite flavor blend of your own.
Wishing you health, wealth & happiness,
