Amy is one of the happiest people on earth. She walks into a room and smiles and everyone else in the room can’t help but follow suit. She is the friend that is always positive, uplifting, and fun to be around. On top of all of those things, she is a huge supporter of fitness and healthy living. She naturally just LOVES healthy food (which makes me jealous because I love pizza). She bakes the best sweet, yet healthy, desserts. Not to mention, she would do most anything for anyone. I asked Amy to answer these questions so we can all learn something from her natural health conscious choices. Here is what she had to say. Enjoy!
Health, Wealth, & Happiness,
What type of activities do you do to stay fit?
Regularly, I do Pilates, hike, and bike I also try to squeeze in cardio wherever I can. I walk a lot and run or go on the elliptical when I have a break between clients. I love to try new work outs, especially if they involve being outside. Last weekend I got a great work out stand up paddle boarding and this weekend I’m going to try paddle board yoga!
What do you think is the key to a healthy lifestyle?
The key to a healthy lifestyle is finding what works for you and doing what makes you feel best. There are so many different workouts and diets and each body is so different, you have to try things and find what makes you feel best. I have found that the key to a healthy lifestyle is just treating your body with love and respect.
What’s your favorite asset?
My favorite asset about myself is my ability to stay positive. I can find something to smile about in pretty much any situation and can usually cheer people up or change their outlook which makes me a strong fitness instructor. Physically I like my arms because they are long and thin. I used to hate them and think I had monkey arms but now I appreciate them. I also like my stomach because it has always been strong. In middle school I broke the school record for the sit-ups contest and I had no idea I had a strong core. I think it was from horseback riding and gymnastics and it’s probably why I originally loved Pilates.
What is your LEAST favorite workout? But why do you still do it?
I don’t like stationary cardio like running on a treadmill or spinning in a studio because I LOVE moving around and being outside and I get bored easily. I still do them when I can’t get outside because I can get my cardio done while reading or watching something. It’s a great way to multi-task and also very important for when weather doesn’t permit running outside.
If you had to choose any healthy meal or snack what would it be?
I am very lucky because I pretty much love all food, including healthy food so I have a pretty easy time eating healthy. Recently I have been obsessed with Acai Bowls. Its like a smoothie that is more fun to eat. I love coconut too. I have coconut flakes for dessert sometimes. I can’t stop eating them…
We all have cheat days, what’s your poison?
I definitely cheat everyday in small ways. I live by the “everything in moderation” rule. I eat really healthy in general and am passionate about organic, sustainable food but I am also very passionate about chocolate and pasta. If Im going for a full on cheat meal I would probably order pasta with seafood!
What inspires you to be healthy and active?
The way it makes me feel. I am inspired to stay healthy and active because it’s what I enjoy most! I spent most of my childhood playing outside and I think I still have that same love for being active outdoors. I have always wanted to take care of my body to the best of my knowledge and ability. You only have one body, I feel very lucky to be generally healthy and strong so I take care of my body to keep it that way.
If you could give girls any advice about loving their bodies what would you say?
Fully loving and accepting our bodies has become so difficult with the media and trends lately. It really is tragic to watch girls grow up and quickly realize there are so many things they should be critical about and try to change. My best advice is to look at the amazing beautiful things about your body like what it allows you to accomplish each day and how lucky you are to be healthy and able to do what you love. Beauty comes in so many different packages. Do the things that make you FEEL beautiful and full of love. Only worry about being happy and healthy. Worrying about our flaws only holds us back from accepting ourselves. The things that make us unique and different are the things that make us beautiful.
