One of the most important things to think about heading into our weekend in Vegas is sun care. We want to make sure we are taking care of our skin as we head into spending two days at the pool. Sun care can be broken down into several different categories: sunscreen, sunglasses, clothing & shade. But lets assume you are going to be wearing a bikini, sporting sunglasses and aren’t going to be around much shade. The best defense you have against skin damage is your sunscreen. The Environmental Working Group, most commonly referred to as the EWG, just published their annual list of the most beneficial sunscreens on the market. If I can be honest with you, I only recognized a handful of brands that were listed on the top of their list. These results will shock you. Let me break it all down for you.
When the EWG conducts their studies they look at several different things:
- Good UVA protection
- Good balance of UVA protection in relation to the SPF
- Ingredients in the product pose a LOW health concern
All sunscreens are given a rating 1-10. With 1 being the best and 10 being high risk.
Lets see how some of the popular brands of sunscreen match up. I pulled this directly from their website, www.EWG.org.
