Why we are crushing on Courtney:
Not only is Courtney BEAUTIFUL, she is one of the most down to earth people I have ever met. She is an actress and a fitness instructor at one of the hottest workout places around. You can catch this girl all over your TV screen in shows like Bones, NCIS, and Criminal Minds. Courtney will also be gracing the big screen in 2016 as “Anna” in Allegiant: Part 1. Check out more of what she is up to on IMDB. We asked Courtney to answer a few questions about her fitness routine and this is what she had to say.

What type of activities do you do to stay fit?
I love to switch it up, which is best for your body. I get bored easily with the same routine, so I am always finding new exercises to try. I like to dance, kickbox, walk on an incline on the treadmill, hike, hit the stair master or the elliptical for cardio 5 to 6 days a week. I also switch up arm and leg strength training days, two of each a week focusing on different muscles each day to stay toned within those areas.
What do you think is the key to a healthy lifestyle?
Staying active and falling in love with foods that are good for you. A lot of people just eat to eat, instead of reminding themselves that we eat to be nourished. Finding combinations of food that you love, with a healthy mix of protein, complex carbs, and fat, is the best way to maintain a healthy diet. Also, staying active in everything you do. If you can walk up stairs- do it, if you can walk down the street to the store- do it, if you can take a walk at some point during the day just to breathe and recoup- do it. A healthy lifestyle is a healthy mind and body from the inside out- not the other way around.
What’s your favorite asset?
My favorite asset are my headphones. I LOVE music. If I could have theme music everywhere I went, I would. Music is such a therapy to me. It allows me to escape into wonderment, nostalgia, or it becomes a place to release pain I am holding on to. Blasting music in the car is wonderful, putting speakers on blast are great, but there is something euphoric about retreating into my own bubble while viewing the world through the eyes of great melodies and lyricists.
What is your LEAST favorite workout? But why do you still do it?
I am not a huge fan of the stair master. It sucks. It kills me every time I get on it, but it makes my butt pretty freakin’ toned- so I suffer through it gladly.
If you had to choose any healthy meal or snack what would it be?
I would say for a meal it would be some sort of chicken salad, its really hard for me to get bored with those. There are just so many things you can do to it, with many sauces to put on and different veggies. For my snack, hands down, would be PB2 with almond milk on a rice cake or gluten free toast. Even just in a bowl with crunched up granola. I have a serious obsession with PB2!
We all have cheat days, what’s your poison?
I don’t do cheat days, I find it easier to have one or two cheat meals/desserts a week. This way I can maintain my healthy life style easier. A whole day can really throw you off emotionally and physically, at least for me. Definitely, if I had to pick something it would be sweet potato fries with pesto sauce. I can’t resist either, so why not have them at the same time! OR some lamb, steak or ribs. Can’t keep the BBQ out this Texans diet, its just un-human. For desert, it’s definitely Menchies or Yogurtland, hands down.
What inspires you to be healthy and active?
The way it makes me feel. Nothing beats feeling great and having energy. After a night of having a few drinks with friends or a few consecutive cheat meals on a vacation, I can’t wait to detox. I am all about having fun and living life with little splurges, but I can really feel when something I’m putting into my body is unhealthy. I just have so many things I want to do with my life, that to make it all happen everyday I really can’t be anything but healthy.
If you could give girls any advice about loving their bodies what would you say?
Honestly, the best advice I ever got was from my dad. Going through my own moment of self-loathing over some part of my body that week, he shined light on a very important point. He said, “Don’t overlook or be afraid to own the parts of yourself that you DO love. It is so easy to focus on the things you don’t like when looking in the mirror or getting dressed for the day. There is always going to be something that you feel like you could change, but if that is all you focus on you will never be satisfied. And NEVER let anyone dictate how you feel except YOU. You would never continue to let a loved one tell you your inner thighs look fat and your bloated as hell as you were walking out the door, so why would you let YOURSELF spew that same hate?”.
Everyday when I look in the mirror I find that part of myself I want to emphasize that day. Maybe today its my stomach and the fire I hold inside of it or my legs that I am proud to say keep me moving forward. Maybe tomorrow its my chest and my yearning heart inside of it or my butt that catches me every time I fall. Maybe its my smile or my eyes that I feel need to be heard today, and so on throughout the week. There is always SOMETHING about yourself you can show off, inside and out, and by all means PLEASE do it. Own who you are as a woman. Own what you have been blessed with. Because that butt that you might be complaining about being too darn big, I guarantee someone is out there squatting their life away trying to attain it. Curves are sexy, muscular is sexy, petite is sexy, because confidence is what makes us sexy. Most importantly, stop comparing yourself to other people. No one is perfect, no one has what you have, and most likely those women you are idolizing aren’t fully satisfied with themselves either. We must band together and compliment each other for what we each have been given, instead of scrutinizing each other out of envy. Women are such beautiful creatures, so allow your beauty to shine through whenever possible.
